چکیده

D ihydrogen (H2) gas has the potential to be a limitless source of clean energy if simple and efficient methods of production and utilization can be developed. In that regard, using H2 to store electrical energy by means of an electrochemical cell and returning that energy by means of a fuel cell would be among the cleanest and most efficient energy methodologies. This electrochemical apparatus needs to employ robust catalysts for proton reduction and dihydrogen oxidation. In a nonbiological setting, these processes are most readily accomplished at a platinum electrode. Unfortunately, platinum is resource-limited, expensive, and irreversibly inactivated by common trace impurities in H2 gas, such as H2S and CO.

Introducing Pt/ZnO as a new non carbon substrate electro catalyst for oxygen reduction reaction at low temperature acidic fuel cells

Gas diffusion electrode was used for providing better conditions in fuel cell systems for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). Because the slow kinetics of the oxygen reduction reaction at the proton exchange membrane fuel cell cathode restricts fuel cell efficiency. To this end, researchers have used platinum-coated carbon. In the present study, due to the reduction of carbon corrosion, Zinc oxide...

Design of Highly Uniform Platinum and Palladium Nanoparticle Decoration on TiO2 Nanotube Arrays: An Efficient Anode to the Electro-Oxidation of Alcohols

We explore electro-catalytic properties of a system consisting of platinum and palladium nanoparticles dispersed over a nanotubular self-organized TiO2 matrix. These electrodes prepared by electroess and microemulsion of palladium and palladium nanoparticles on to TiO2 nanotubes, respectively. Titanium oxide nanotubes were fabricated by anodizing titanium foil in ethylene glycol (EG) fluoride-c...

Effect of platinum on Ceria supported Cu catalysts for PrOx process in fuel processors

The CO preferential oxidation (PrOx) is one of the critical steps in hydrogen production and purification for Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cell (PEMFC). This reaction was investigated in the presence of excess hydrogen over Cu/CeO2, Pt/CeO2 and Cu-Pt/CeO2 catalysts. The ceria supports was prepared via precipitation method and Cu-Pt/CeO2 catalyst was synthesized by sequential impregnation o...

Hydrogenase electrodes for fuel cells.

Considering crucial problems that limit use of platinum-based fuel cells, i.e. cost and availability, poisoning by fuel impurities and low selectivity, we propose electrocatalysis by enzymes as a valuable alternative to noble metals. Hydrogenase electrodes in neutral media achieve hydrogen equilibrium potential (providing 100% energy conversion), and display high activity in H(2) electrooxidati...
